tylenol only

Becky came down with a cold this week and Thursday night she got a fever. The only thing she is allowed to take is regular strength Tylenol. It turns out that it is really hard to find regular strength anything. Jerry Seinfeld jokes that regular strength is off the market. Not quite, but it was hard to find. Becky stayed home from work on Friday and was closely monitoring the fever. If the fever gets over 101 it can be dangerous for the baby. We were fortunate that it never got over 100, but Beck was miserable for a couple days. She did a lot of sleeping and the fever finally broke last night. She is feeling much better today and we even ran a few errands around town. She has been chugging Gatorade by the case and after a couple days of being groggy and not very talkative--she emerged from the bed room today and announced, "I think my boobs are bigger!" Yeah, I think she is feeling better.

I'm really bloated too. Our friend Liz says I'm the only pregnant person she knows that looks 5 weeks pregnant in the morning and 5 months in the evening. lol.

sweet pickles

Pickles has been upset that she has not got much play on the blog so I am including a pictures of her in her litter box. She will be 4 in Feb. She lives in a cage 23 hours of the day, but most evenings we get her out to run in the living room. The cool thing is during that hour she is litter box trained. She runs free in a section of the living room and when nature calls she jumps into the litter box and pays the water bill. She is rewarded with a chewable vitamin C--which she has to have as part of her diet. We think she is a genius. I have a feeling the potty training will be a bit more challening with human children.

baby update

Another doctor's visit yesterday. Becky and baby are doing really well. She is 11 weeks along tomorrow. The baby is growing right on schedule. Becky is up to 110 lbs. The heartbeat was 176 beats per minute. It sounded like a freight train. Okay, maybe not quite as loud.

Apparently when you first come in for an appointment you are supposed to go in to the bathroom and give a urine sample. Becky can always pee. We joke that she has the world's smallest bladder. Well, for whatever reason Becky could not pee yesterday. The nurses were making fun of her saying things like: "Do you think we should go check on her?" or "If there was a window in there I would insist that she had escaped, but I know this door is the only way out." Even her doctor came out and said "She is still in there!" Eventually she did the deed and all was well. The first picture is the baby. The second one is me. Can you see the family resemblance?

ohio state

Well, some of you have been waiting for me to comment on the spanking that OSU got from LSU on Monday night at the Big BCS game. I talked a lot of smack before the game knowing we were probably gonna loose. I have nothing to say other than the observation that I actually attended the school that I root for unlike some LSU fans living in TN who have not even lived in LA for 20 years! You know who you are.

A bit of trivia: the Buckeyes were National Champions the year before I went to OSU (2002) and the three years I was there they stunk it up. Becky and I went to one game during that time. It was the first time we played Texas. It was an awesome game that we lost in the final minutes. The 2 years since I have graduated we have made it to the Championship game and got our butts handed to us in a to go box. Oh nutz!, the life of a Buckeye.

Tiffy, Lauren, Brandon, Rusty, Becky and I met for lunch while in PC. 1/3 of the people in this table are pregnant.

fambly fotos

Okay, I realize this is the 4th post today. Don't get used to it folks. I will try and update things once a week once school starts. I have a lot of work I should be doing to get ready for Monday, but for now I am having fun procrastinating and farting around on the computer.

With the news of baby Hedden I have been on a family history/ancestry kick. I love this old photograph. My great grandfather, Daniel Hedden is the tall one with the cigarette. My middle name is Daniel in his honor. My uncle Jimmy is on the left. I love the way that great-grandpa has a death grip on his wrist. My Dad is the one with the whopper on the string. Aunt Trina is the one with the bowl cut and the sweet dress.By all reports this was Dad's first fishing trip. The first of many.

what's in a name?

For a few years now, I have played a name game with my students on the first day of school. This games serves as an ice breaker and it allows me to learn the students' names quickly. Anyway, in the game you say your full name and then tell as much as you know about it. Lastly, you tell the group what you would like to be called. When the speaker is done the the group chants the name three times in unison. This chanting serves to lock the name into my memory and freak out the student being chanted at.

Below is an example. The story of my name.

"I am Jason Daniel Hedden. Like every 3rd American male born in the second half of the 1970s my given first name was Jason. I had to be Jason H. until 3rd grade because there were always a few Jasons in the class. My Dad took the name from the Greek Hero. Jason and the Argonauts. Clash of the Titans anyone? I think he also gave his wife Medea some grief and stole some golden fleece. Jason not my Dad. My middle name comes from my Grandfather Daniel. I never met him, but I have a great picture of my Dad standing next to him after Dad's first fishing trip. Hedden. What can say? I think it used to be spelled Headen--which would prevent the mispronunciation of "Heeden" I am German on my Mom's side Eisenhardt. Actually Jewish German I recently found out. I am looking into the origin of Hedden. Anyway, you can call me Jason."

Actually, the high school students call me Mr. Hedden. A few call me J-Head. Don't ask.

So, tell us the story of your name-- as much or as little as you want. I heard some great names today from my Aunt Etta who was helping me with some ancestry research. More on that later.

the family pictures

Here is our first ultrasound taken at 6 weeks. Don't be embarrassed if you don't have any idea what you are looking at. The resolution is poor from the photo scan, but not much better when you are looking at the actual photo. Jason had to ask the technician what was what. For those of your wondering the same...In the center of the image is a jalapeno shape. That is the gestational sac. Inside the jalapeno is a small circle. That is the yolk sac. Above the yolk sac is a blurry worm shape. That blurry worm shape is our growing child. Wow!

post numero uno

Since so many of our family and friends are spread all over the globe we have decided to set up a blog to keep you in the loop on our adventures. We have been in central California for a year and a half now. Jason is teaching theatre at Monte Vista Christian School in Watsonville and Becky is doing medical billing for an OB/GYN office in Santa Cruz. The real deciding factor for the attempt at increased communication was our wonderful Christmas news. Becky is pregnant and we are expecting our first child in early August! Above is a photo we took right after a positive home pregnancy test.

We are 9 weeks along now. Becky has not had any morning sickness, just a bad taste in her mouth and she has been burping like a frat boy at a keg party. Please keep us in your thoughts and prayers. Check back for updates. I think you can sign up to receive an e-mail when we add a new post. More on that later.
